In dieser Phase stößt die konventionelle Schlackenanalyse auf ihre Grenzen, da sie den Effizienzanforderungen im Schmelz- und Sekundärmetallurgischen Prozesses nicht gerecht wird. Traditionelle Methoden wie die Röntgenfluoreszenzanalyse sind zu langsam, um mit der aktiven Schlackenbildung in Elektroöfen Schritt zu halten. In der Folge wird mit Standard-Rezepten, an stelle von dynamischen Rezepturen auf Basis von Analysewerten gearbeitet Hier setzt u.a. die OES an. Mit Analysen in unter 1 Minute zu Kosten von weniger als 50% einer Probensonde, werden engmaschige, in-situ Schlackenanalyse und Echtzeit-Anpassungen ermöglicht. Im Kontext der CO2-neutralen Stahlproduktion wird der Bedarf an präzisem, prozessbegleitendem Wissen immer wichtiger, um mit den zunehmenden Schwankungen im Rohmaterial (z.B. DRI & Schrott) umzugehen.
