Technical article for the German Q&Z Magazine

Quality and Reliability Under Real Process Conditions

In day-to-day steelmaking, decisions often have to be made within seconds. At the same time, analytical data—especially for slag chemistry—is frequently only available with a significant delay. As a result, process adjustments are often based on experience rather than on current, reliable chemical information.

Against this background, we have published a technical article focusing on german speaking magazine Q&Z (Qualität und Zuverlässigkeit) about process-near slag analysis. The article discusses why analytical methods should not be evaluated solely under ideal laboratory conditions, but instead on their ability to deliver reproducible and meaningful results directly in the production environment.

The article addresses:

  • why classical slag analysis often becomes a bottleneck due to sample preparation and turnaround time,

  • how Laser-OES enables rapid analysis through digital homogenization without extensive physical sample preparation,

  • how reproducibility and analytical performance compare under practical conditions,

  • and how timely slag chemistry information can measurably improve process stability, cost efficiency, and product quality.

Rather than focusing on technology alone, the article highlights the importance of reliable information at the right moment—as a foundation for better decisions in steelmaking operations.
