Quantolux at the ESTEP Workshop in Bardolino: Advancing Steel Production with Digital Slag Analysis
Alexander Schlemminger has attended the ESTEP Workshop on Digital-4-Environment, held by the Smart Factory and Circular Economy Focus Groups in Bardolino, Italy. The event brought together industry leaders to explore cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable future in steel production.
Our presentation, "Increasing the Efficiency of Steel Production through Rapid In-Situ Slag Analysis Using Digital Sample Homogenization," focused on a groundbreaking approach for improving slag management in steel plants. As the industry moves from traditional blast furnaces to electric arc furnaces (EAF) and direct reduction plants, the need for rapid, precise slag analysis has become crucial. This shift requires steel plants to adapt to dynamic material flows, impacting product quality, efficiency, and energy use.
Using Laser Optical Emission Spectrometry (Laser OES) for digital homogenization, we demonstrated how steel producers could achieve real-time, in-situ slag analysis without extensive sample preparation. By capturing thousands of measurement events, Laser OES enables fast, accurate adjustments, ensuring optimal slag composition, reducing wear, and enhancing overall melt shop management. This digital solution doesn’t just save time; it opens new avenues for carbon-neutral, high-efficiency steel production.
We look forward to further collaborations and continuing to innovate alongside our peers to shape the future of sustainable steel production.
