QLX3Spark is a classical spark spectrometer and uses an up-to-date digital source generator to excite the sample and generate a plasma. The plasma light then travels into the optical chamber, is dispersed and the spectal lines are detected with CMOS detectors. This type of sensor has replaced CCDs in many applications over the years and is now also being introduced to spectrometry.
It offers some distinct advantages over previous line CCDs:
higher dynamic range
better spectral response
much faster readout enabling single-spark detection and even time-resolved spectroscopy (TRS)
