December 2024 - A new QLX9 HD analyzer is en route to a customer in Turkey, where it will be...

Your steel is worth it.ANKIROS 2026 - Istanbul, Turkey
A slag analyzer on a refractory booth. Sounds odd. Makes sense.
Some say the QLX9 does not exist. At ANKIROS 2026 in Istanbul we had proof. Sort of.
It analyzes slag better than it poses for photos. But it was really there, Hall 6, Booth D110.
Our hosts were WEERULIN GmbH and SÜPERREF. Thank you again! On their wall it said in big letters: "Your steel is worth it."
We fully agree. And we would add one sentence.
If your steel is worth it, your slag is worth a measurement.
Why a slag analyzer on a refractory booth?
The melt shop makes the slag. The slag decides, amongst other things, how long the lining lives.
Basicity too low. MgO not saturated. FeO too high. The refractory sees it first. Usually long before the lab result is back.
So in Istanbul we had the full chain at one table. Melt shop people, refractory people, slag chemistry. Three views on the same problem. That gave good talks. Some of them took longer than one glass of tea…
What the QLX9 does
The QLX9 is a Laser OES analyzer for slag. In the scientific literature the method is called LIBS. We just call it fast.
- Slag chemistry in about 20 seconds per measurement
- Granular slag goes in directly. No milling, no pressing, no fused beads
- Built for near the line use in the melt shop, not only for the central lab
- The values that matter for the process: FeO, CaO, SiO₂, MgO, Al₂O₃, MnO and the basicity
Why does this matter? A result after 15 minutes is a report. A result after 20 seconds is a decision.
The heat is still running. You can still correct lime, dolomite and carbon. And you protect the lining instead of reading about the damage later.
We bring the analyzer to you
A fair booth is nice. Your own melt shop is better.
The QLX9 demo unit is mobile. It travels in its flight case, the same one you see under it on the photos. We bring it to your plant, set it up near the furnace and measure your own slag samples for some hours or a few days.
Your process, your slag, your numbers. Then you compare with your lab and decide yourself.
This summer we did exactly that on a roadshow through US melt shops in Ohio and Indiana. Three engineers, one analyzer and a car that got smaller every day. It works.
Many people from Turkish melt shops visited us in Istanbul. Should we come to your plant next?
Pls. let us know, if you want to see the QLX9 running in your melt shop.
